Volvo has made a commitment to electrification and has been expanding its lineup of electrified vehicles, they still offer conventional gasoline-powered models. However, they have announced that all new Volvo cars and SUVs will be either electric or hybrid starting in 2025. This means that they will no longer offer vehicles that are powered solely by an internal combustion engine beyond that point. So, while not all new Volvos are hybrids currently, the company is moving towards a fully electrified future. Below is a breakdown of the different types of Hybrid Technology offered by Volvo.

Volvo offers three different types of electrified technology options: Mild Hybrid, PHEV Recharge, and Recharge Pure Electric. Here are the differences between each:

1. Mild Hybrid: A mild hybrid vehicle has both a small electric motor and a gasoline engine.  The electric motor is powered by a battery, and it can assist the gasoline engine when needed. The Volvo hybrid system is called "Twin Engine," and it combines a 2.0-liter gasoline engine with an electric motor. The system is designed to provide a balance between performance and efficiency, and it can be recharged by regenerative braking.

2. PHEV Recharge (Plugin Hybrid Electric Vehicle): A PHEV Recharge Volvo can be charged from an external power source, such as a wall outlet or a charging station. The Volvo recharge system is similar to the hybrid system, but it has a larger battery and a more powerful electric motor. This allows the vehicle to drive for longer distances on electric power alone, and it can be recharged in about 2.5 hours using a fast charger.

3. Recharge Pure Electric: A Recharge Pure Electric vehicle is an all-electric vehicle that is powered only by an electric motor and a battery. The Volvo recharge pure electric system is designed to provide maximum electric range and zero-emissions driving. The battery can be charged from an external power source, and it can provide up to 250 miles of driving range on a single charge.

In summary, the main differences between Volvo's technology options are the powertrain configurations and the level of electric driving range they provide. The Mild Hybrid and PHEV Recharge systems are powered by a combination of an electric motor and a battery, while the Recharge Pure Electric option provides an all-electric driving experience.
